Sir,

S.W.1.

HONG KONG

With reference to the four wireless engineers

whose services are being loaned to the Hong Kong Government,

three of whom sailed on the 4th March, we have received the

following telegram from Hong Kong :-

#1

Following from Madgwick.

Reference appointment Brumby Mr. King accords advisability informing you no married quarters d'Aguilar and past experience unsatisfactory women on station health point view. Fifteen mile road last two jungle track.

I sug- gest under circumstances appointment single man preferable. Please advise sailing date important earliest arrival.

We have no suitable single man available to

replace Mr. Brumby at the present time, and he will there-

fore proceed to Hong Kong as arranged on the s.s..

Rajputana" sailing from London on the 13th May, but his

wife will not accompany him. We have requested the Crown

Agents to cancel the passage booked for her.

It has been suggested to Mr. Brumby that he will

be in a position to decide upon the advisability of his

wife joining him at a later date when he has had an

opportunity of studying the local conditions.

We shall be glad to have your assurance that, if

Mr. Brumby is able to make satisfactory arrangements for

his wife to reside with him, a passage will be provided

by the Crown Agents when required.

We are, Sir

Your obedient Servants,

All thisberdine
